The Fremont Arts Council builds community through art and art activities. You may have seen or participated in some of the celebration art events the FAC produces: The Fremont Summer Solstice Parade & Pageant, Luminata Lantern Walk, Trolloween, the Feast of the Winter Solstice, and the May Day Picnic. Maybe you've seen our home base and community workshop, The Powerhouse on Fremont Ave N.
Or you may have visited (or even decorated!) some of Fremont's famous public artworks, without knowing how they got there. The Fremont Troll, the Waiting for the Interurban statues, and the BF Day Tile Mural are all Fremont Arts Council projects that have become Seattle landmarks.
The Fremont Arts Council believes that art is essential to community. And even more: that great art creates community itself - through stewardship, a sense of belonging, and collective participation.
Our vision is of a Fremont that's a fun, interesting, and beautiful place to live, to work, and to visit. And, of course, one that's for everyone - whether big and small, professional artist or beginner - to make great art in.
What We Do
We use creativity to build a stronger community. We believe in art as an integral part of everyday life. We promote diversity of viewpoints, backgrounds & art forms.
Our Principles
We accept fiscal responsibility for our decisions.
We believe participation & equal access to power is essential.
We honor integrity.
We respect our work/play space & environment. Recycling is part of our art.
We support growth that balances our resources, tradition & intent.
We communicate effectively both internally & externally. We believe in each other's goodwill and working together.
We welcome everyone, regardless of who they are and what they think or believe.
We uphold an ethic of equality: we support and celebrate human
dignity and diversity.
Our Goals
To use consensus decision-making and information sharing, so as many people as possible can be involved in the creative process.
To import other creative processes, art, and artists to bring a new perspective to our stew of creativity.
To export our creative process, art, and artists to other communities to enrich their lives.
To endorse personal responsibility and respectful behavior.
To empower individuals in discovering their creative abilities.
To provide a structure that allows for the least amount of bureaucracy & the maximum amount of art making.
To insure that these goals are always considered part of a living document, one to which anyone can propose changes, additions or subtractions.
