Kai is the artist who created and then tamed this amazing Dragon Lantern. You can learn how to build lanterns for Luminata, too! |
|
Luminata Lantern Walk begins at 7pm on Sunday, September 23rd at Greenlake. We meet at the south end of Green Lake at the boathouse and stadium. This is the event that one well known FAC old-timer described as "the event with the greatest sweetness factor"!
Luminata is an enchanting walk around Greenlake after dark with lanterns and friends. Each year we hold workshops to make new lanterns out of bamboo, reed and tissue paper, or various materials and techniques. We usually stop halfway around at the Seattle Public Theater hill and enjoy hot beverage and cookies, and then continue on or turn back. We love to have music along the walk, and hopefully a floating ensemble on the lake! The possibilities are wide open.
We have scheduled plenty of classes and open workshop time for the making of new and unique lanterns. So please take some time, create a vision of light, and join us for a wonderful experience!!

Ghosts, goblins and ghouls welcome! Princesses and faeries, too! Troll o'ween is an annual Halloween night event to celebrate the Birthday of the Fremont Troll*. Wear a costume and bring the whole family. Enjoy the sounds of the Fremont Philharmonic, dance with your favorite ghoul, enjoy the moves of Vamola samba skeletons, and pageantry of the Fremont Players, and then we will head out to haunt Fremont! Call (206)547-7440 or email events@fremontartscouncil.org for times and info.

| Sky shares the magic of the Feast. |
|
The Feast is the annual Volunteer Appreciation event for the Fremont Arts Council community, family, and friends. It's an art happening, a potluck, a fundraiser, and a magical celebration of the longest night of the year.
Admission to the Feast is by invitation, but you can receive one by joining the FAC and spending some time helping everyone to build and decorate the Feast space (and clean it up afterwards!). A donation is requested from everyone attending to help cover costs and to keep the FAC going strong while waiting for the return of the Sun.
A smashing new FAC tradtion, back for its second year in 2008, Carnivale Voudoo! is a wild Mardi Gras bacchanal done in true Fremont style and a public fundraiser for the Fremont Solstice Parade. Featuring live music with the Zydeco Locals and the Wild Rhododendrons, and a special Zydeco Dance Lesson with KBCS DJ Sean "Gator Boy" Donovan.
It all begins on Saturday, February 2nd 2008, at 8PM, at Theo's Chocolate Factory, on the corner of N 34th and Phinney Ave N. Tickets are $25, available online at Brown Paper Tickets or in person at Fremont Place Books.

Greetings to all those who revel in Springtime, for May Day is upon us!
Come one and come all to a celebration of life and spring, flowers and ribbons, food and music: the Fremont Arts Council May Day. Dress in your springtime finery, and bring yourselves, your children, and friends new and old - all are welcome.
The celebration will once again be found at the Upper Woodland Park Picnic area - directions below. Events begin at 5 PM on May 1st. The appropriate deities have been propitiated, so delightful weather is all but assured.
Plan to bring with you:
 |
| Ha ha ha! We love to have FUN! |
|
*A potluck dish to share, plus your own plates, cups, and tableware. Please help us leave no trace!
* Flowers and greenery of your own to add to the headdress-making.
* Picnic blankets and chairs if you wish.
* Outdoor games and musical instruments.
Also, remember that the Arts Council's Mayday celebration is an all-volunteer event; we'd love your help! There's no big commitment needed; if many people each just take just small pieces of whole we'll be in fine shape. Consider whether _you_ could lend a hand for even a single hour, before or during the celebration.
Volunteer jobs:
* Setup at the park
* Gather materials and set-up for the headdresses
* Organize and/or lead a kids' game or activity
* Play music!
* Organize the potluck area
* Lead a ritual
* Clean up
Everyone is welcome to share in the revelry of May Day!
