The Fremont Arts Council is powered by volunteers. If you have any desire to connect, create, celebrate, learn skills, teach skills, or just lend a hand, get in touch with us! Our friendly volunteer coordinator, Morgan, eagerly awaits your call at 206.547.7440, or an email at volunteer@fremontartscouncil.org
Before the Party starts: now through June 15th
May 25-28th, Northwest FolkLife Festival – Come play with children (of all ages!) as we build a Parade float together on the Seattle Center's Fisher Green.
At the Parade workshops - help build it all!
• Scroungers: Resourceful individuals needed to gather materials for the workshop, classes and parade floats.
• Workshop Moms: Friendly support staff needed during workshop hours to greet people, orient newcomers, keep things organized, and gently encourage clean up.
• Mentors: People with knowledge of construction, structure, power tools, sewing machines, performance, movement, or with experience building floats, puppets, ensembles or other parade art: you are needed as consultants and to demonstrate skills.
• Videographers/photographers: This year we're hoping to have online video clips to document the excitement of the Parade build happening at the Powerhouse. Come share your talent and document some of the amazing things in the big run up to Solstice Day.
• Plumber: This is pretty basic: we have two sinks that need to be set up in our workshops. Can you and your wrench set help us out?
Friday, June 15th The Big Float Move (10pm-midnight) The excitement has been building and now we move the floats into position for the parade. If you've ever secretly wanted to be a circus roustabout, then come and be a part of it!
THE BIG DAY - Saturday, June 16th - Solstice Parade/Pageant/Party 9am-8pm
Near and in the parade
• Street openers/closers: 9am and 3pm - Four people per shift to help put out the signs that close and open the streets. Motorcycles or scooters make this a very quick job, but they're not required.
• Chalk Faeries: 10am–12pm - Come hand out chalk so kids can decorate the parade route!
• Green Hatters: 12–8pm, When else are you going to have a chance to have thousands of people throw money at you?
• Parade Monitors: 12pm–3pm - Cool cucumbers who can communicate on walkie-talkies or project their voice in a crowd, keep the vibe positive, and help us guide the parade safely along the streets of Fremont.
• Recycling ensemble rangers: 11am–4pm - A small army of helpful souls inclined to turn garbage bags and grocery carts into magical recycling receptacles during and after the parade, so we can return the usual clean sparkle to the streets.
• Stage assistants: 11am–2pm - Three self-sufficient folks to make the activity at the stages along the parade route go smoothly.
• Parade Swag Hawkers: 11am–2pm - We need an amazing lead person to head this up, along with 3-5 swift volunteers. See the parade from the inside!
At Gas Works Park
• Solstice Host Table: 12pm–10pm. Two or three people per two-hour shift to "hose down" participants of the parade and restore them with fresh fruit and snacks.
• Bar Servers: 12pm–8pm - Many friendly folks needed for 2-3 hour shifts to keep the crowd at Gas Works adequately refreshed. Current liquor server's license is a plus.
• Roadies: Two shifts - 8am–10am & 8pm–10pm - Four to eight folks per shift to help us setup and tear down the stage at Gas Works Park.
• Pageant Performers: Attention stilt walkers, percussionists, dancers, puppeteers, jugglers, acrobats, and people who just want to stand and hold banners in costume. It will take nearly one hundred of us to pull this off. Contact the Pageant Director Rob D'Arc at: pageant@fremontartscouncil.org
Back to your regularly scheduled channel: Sunday, June 17th
We'll be out in force at Gas Works Park from 5pm on the day after the Parade, working on disassembly and cleanup until everything looks good. Come out and help us clean up after ourselves; we want to keep a good connection with our many neighbors and insure we'll be able to continue the Parade year after year.
Questions? Offers? Want to help out in some way we haven't thought of?
Give a shout out to our volunteer coordinator, Morgan, at volunteer@fremontartscouncil.org, or ring our chimes at the Powerhouse: 206.547.7440. We'd love to have you be a part of this, in any way you're able.
