Seeking New Members for the Board of Directors

It is that time of year when the Fremont Arts Council (FAC) elects members to the Board of Directors. Many of our current Board are returning to serve the community, but there is more room for you or someone you think would make a great addition to FAC leadership. Nominations are now open and will remain open until February 18th.

The FAC is seeking a Treasurer, and other board members who have organizational or development skills they would like to share.  Board members meet monthly on Tuesday evenings and the time commitment is 4 to 10 hours per month.  Board members also participate on a leadership team.

Requirements to which board members must agree to commit:

  • Two (2) years’ service on the Board
  • Attendance at monthly Board meetings (12/yr.)
  • Facilitate 1-2 COW meetings a year, by planning the agenda and lead the meeting
  • Active participation and leadership as either a Board officer, event lead for a FAC event, and/or co-chair of a FAC leadership team/committee: (i.e. Development & Outreach; Program & Events; or Finance, Operations & Governance).

Qualities and Skills needed by FAC Board members:

  • MUST: Be a member of the Fremont Arts Council (as of Feb. 14th)
  • MUST HAVE: Positive, proactive, and enthusiastic attitude for the organization
  • MUST HAVE: Willingness to try new things and take on many and miscellaneous tasks as they arise for the organization
  • HELPFUL: Have participated in FAC events and activities

WE NEED: Fundraising and grant writing experience

WE NEED: Planning and management experience

WE NEED: Bookkeeping or database management experience

WE NEED: A board Secretary and a Treasurer

Other skills which make for effective Board Membership:

  • Experience serving on the Board of a non-profit organization
  • Experience with public art, celebration arts
  • Experience in business management, legal or finance
  • You are an artist
  • Connections with youth organizations, art schools, or other arts and community organizations
  • Thoughtful, confident, articulate, succinct, polite, respectful, and a good listener
  • Able to process large amounts of information and make thoughtful decisions in a group context fairly quickly.

In order to vote or to run for the Board you must be a current paid FAC member as of the February 14th COW meeting. Renew your membership now or become a member. In order to be an effective leader for this dynamic and busy community of artists, all nominees should be prepared with the time and commitment to roll up your selves, have a great time, and take on a stewardship role for the organization.

To nominate yourself as a candidate for the Fremont Arts Council Board of Directors:

Please submit a Letter of Intention (300 words or less) in which you state why you wish to be a member of the Board, and a relevant biography of why you are qualified to serve. Describe your background, experience and strengths that you would bring to board service; as well as your interests, vision and goals you have for the FAC.  This letter will be published with the ballot for voting members on February 20th.   Please submit your letter to:  fac@fremontartscouncil.org.

Nominations must be received no later than February 18th, 2017.

Election Day is the March 14th COW meeting. All current FAC members (current as of February 14th) will receive a voting ballot by e-mail. On-line voting will close at 6pm March 14.  Members may also attend the March 14 COW meeting and submit a ballot. Election results will be announced at the end of that meeting.
