Looking for Parade People!

Want to be part of the Fremont Solstice Parade but don’t know where to start? Joining an existing parade ensemble is one of the easiest and most fun ways to get involved!

Every year, artists and community groups create giant puppets, floats, costumes, moving sculptures, music groups, and interactive performances — and many of them are looking for extra hands to help bring their ideas to life. Whether you want to paint, paper maché, sew costumes, build giant props, rehearse performances, or simply walk in the parade, there’s a place for you.

No experience is necessary, and there are opportunities for all levels of involvement. Some ensembles are looking for dedicated builders and performers, while others just need a little help during workshop days or on parade day itself.

Nose Privateers

Ahoy land-lubbers! Captain Blue Star and First Mate Smee are bringing the Fremont Blue Nose Privateers ashore for the Fremont Solstice Parade and are looking for a few jolly privateers to join the crew. We’re seeking privateers, float pushers, sea creatures, musicians, and maybe even a mermaid to help sail our ship down 36th Street.

Become a lobster, shark, dolphin, octopus, kraken, crab, squid, swordfish, sea horse — or any strange sea creature your imagination can dream up. While often mistaken for pirates, we are in fact privateers operating under a Letter of Marque from the Artistic Republic of Fremont. Our signature blue noses are worn proudly and shared with those worthy to join our ranks as we spread the treasure of joy and happiness.

We are especially looking for:
• A couple of privateers (costume + interactive street theater training required)
• 4–6 float pushers (sea creature or privateer costume + float safety training)
• Sea creatures to walk alongside the ship
• Musicians — accordion, fiddle, bodhran/tabor, tin whistle, guitar, etc.
• A mermaid with their own tail

Participants are responsible for their own costumes. There will be one or two brief workshops covering interactive street theater and float-pushing safety/strategy.

Garden Gnomes

Gnomes are used to bring good luck, protect gardens from evil spirits, and ensure a bountiful harvest. They are considered symbols of prosperity, happiness, and good fortune. Folklore dictates that these industrious creatures help plants grow and ward off negative energy.

Join us to help build papier mâché head, hat, and hands and/or perform with the ensemble!
